6.1 Who Knows Better Than I

The first ep watched via the marvels of post-1998 technology!

Though I notice they're still nudging you towards buying the DVDs in the end, by not playing the whole closing theme.

2.9 40 Oz. Of Furlough

(contd.)

2.8 Appropriately Sized Pots

2.7 Comic Sans

'Karma-wise'

When I'm watching something new obsessively, I know it's going to work out if there's a stamp episode.

With The Avengers it was The Mauritius Penny, with OITNB it's this one. Not just discussion of stamps, but of the future value of forever stamps (NVI ones, with 1ST or 2ND instead of a price). And this shot, which I believe is what my four decades of cult TV appreciation has been leading up to.

Cindy being done by in prison as she did in the TSA is played for laughs, but the point is a good one. The inmates are being treated that way because they went to prison, but the securitat bring prison to you.

The final 'compassionate' release scene is too melodramatic. I absolutely go with the message, but it's not being subtly presented.

2.6 You Also Have Pizza

'I won't tell if you don't'

Larry losing his temper in the visitation room and getting a cough and meaningful look from the guard.

Storm drain stuff is too cartoony. Try and imagine that happening in series 1.

Interesting that, as soon as I saw the officers getting the robot treatment from the meta-officer manning the metal detector, I began to see them as victims of the oppression machine as well. 'Treating us like prisoners' just as Maxwell says. I loved the exchange of glances between her and Piper when they catch each other breaking rules in the loading bay.

Good to see Pennsatucky is equally entertaining even without her old time religion. 'Whore. Whore. Whore.' And her mutely seeking comfort from Healy. Aw.
